Burggarten is a beautiful park in downtown Vienna, within the imperial palace complex. Built in 1818 as the emperor’s private garden, today is one of the most popular recreation parks in the city. The park is decorated with many statues, Mozart’s being among the most famous.

Some of the most important monuments and sights in the Burggarten are:

  • Palmenhaus, an impressive Art Nouveau palm glass house
  • Statue of Mozart, one of Vienna’s most famous citizens
  • Statue of emperor Franz Joseph
  • Statue of Goethe
  • Fountain of Hercules, located in the center of the parks pond.

The garden was built on the ground of ramparts destroyed during Napoleon’s siege.
